The Fog

I never saw either version of the movie, The Fog, but I imagine it was a lot like this engagement shoot I stumbled across online (thanks, Facebook, for endlessly supplying me with people's wedding photos!).

The Fog is coming...

Seeping closer from every direction...

You try to run - maybe to a field somewhere - but The Fog is fast; there's no escape…

Slowly, the groom begins to succomb to The Fog, and kisses his lover goodbye...

The scene closes with the bride clinging desperately to the only thing left of her betrothed: a severed arm…

Transformers Sucks...or Does it?

I saw the first Transformers movie.  The first time was willingly, and quickly regretted, at the theater, and the next 11.5 times were at the gym.

Having seen that, coupled with reviews like this and this overly made-up pile of plastic and whale blubber, I wondered who would pay money to see the second movie.

Then I stumbled across an awesome review.  Though I don't agree on the mere point that I don't think Michael Bay has an intelligence level to comprehend anything beyond "Tree pretty, fire bad," and therefore did not intentionally create an art movie, I do believe in whole heartedly Barthe's theory of "Death of the Author."  Besides, the review's just plain entertaining. So read it.

Remembering Michael Jackson

I don't usually do tributes in memoriam of celebrities, but I, like the rest of the world, am extremely shocked by the death of Michael Jackson.

In spite of the obvious turmoil surrounding him in recent years, I am an avid Michael Jackson fan. I mean, we all know that I like scary...

...and Michael Jackson definitely brought the scary with that video. However, if Thriller were the only thing he had ever done, I would worship him. But the truth is, from I Want You Back to You Rock my World, I am addicted to everything Michael Jackson.

The news of his death was shocking, and also prompted a vigorous, 20-minute internet search at work after the initial report came from TMZ. I don't think my shock and confusion level has decreased since the moment of that first headline, however.

Love him or hate him, we all know that Michael Jackson was a music icon.

This memorial, in particular, I find extremely appropriate and well-worded. It addresses every aspect of the man and reconciles, in my mind, the confused opinions on the various forms that Michael Jackson took over the years. I'm not sure if anyone will ever say it better.

Lastly, I know that Michael Jackson was surrounded with controversy, and was an easy subject for jokes with questionable punchlines. I am, however, sickened by the opportunity many are taking to turn his death into yet another joke. Death is never funny, and this one is certainly more than tragic. In the aftermath of his death, I can only hope for respect for him.

I continue to lament...

That we do not have an H&M in Utah. Sigh...

That's all.

Aspiring to Bakerella

...or hopefully not end up on Cake Wrecks, at least.

I misplaced most of the good pictures we took of these cupcakes, so these are some from my phone. If i find more, I will post them, because my sister and I are awfully proud.

We made these cupcakes for a family birthday party/luau. I love the beach ones with the waves coming in and sun umbrellas, but my absolute favorite is the big crab that my sister did. We had tons of fun thinking of new ideas and trying on our cupcake decorating chops!

"Another world...another time...in the age of wonder"

There are few things as deeply nostalgic to me as The Dark Crystal. Released the same year I was born, the Dark Crystal has been with me the whole way. Just hearing this music makes me want to curl up in a blanket.

Even my earliest memory centers around The Dark Crystal. When I was about 2 or 3, a Muppets exhibit came to Salt Lake, including the Skeksis. My earliest, and oddly vivid memory, is a snap-shot of seeing the Skeksis behind red velvet rope, while I held on to my mom's hand in complete terror (it's a scary movie).

My relationship to the movie being established, I feel I don't need to go into great detail when I saw this while shopping at Trolley Square last night:

mmmmmMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm...

Chamberlain action figure!!! Enough said.

More Self-Promotion

Hey all you awesome friends of mine! Check out what's happening on my other blog. You know, that one about the flowers that I like to do.

Here are some of my latest additions that I am really excited about and love them so much, I just want to eat them (which wouldn't go over so well, bc some of the flowers are silk (sssssh...don't tell anyone!) and the ones that aren't are probably not very delicious either):

They look good, right? I know! Totally awesome! Don't you just want to order one for yourself right now (if you do, I'll use all real flowers (not the fake ones that I used only for the sake of saving myself a pretty penny (and trust me, it is a very pretty penny - all shiny) while building my portfolio))? AND, don't you just want to tell all your friends about them too? I promise you that if you do, you'll find a pretty penny for your very own just chillin' on the ground, waiting it's entire life just for you. Now that's incentive, right?

I'll Crank Your Face!

For the past couple of years, I have been seriously distressed by the use of the term, "crank call."

The majority of my life I had only heard - be it through actual use of the word or a morphing of verbalized syllables by my ear drums - the term "prank call," and it made sense, and I loved doing it.

The term, "crank call," however, doesn't make sense and it makes you sound stupid. When you call a person and tell them that their refrigerator is running or use any other equally cliched line, you are playing a prank, not playing a crank. I would actually really like to know what playing a crank would be like. I imagine something like this.

So after discovering the use of such an absurd term, I wondered if I had misunderstood everyone my entire life, and made sense out of a nonsensical term in my own brain, but was the only one doing so.

Irked

Turns out, "crank call" and "prank call" are interchangeable terms. This eased my mind slightly, but I am still perplexed by the existence of the unfavorable term.

Doing a google search of the term, "crank call," however, you will see that the first three, and many subsequent, links actually turn up with the word, "prank call."

Points for team Words that Actually Make Sense!

And for those of you who prefer your Cs to Ps when using adjectives associated with a telephone call meant for the purpose of making a joke at the expense of the person on the other end of the line, go suck a crank!

Cornify has Amazed Me Again!

So just today I discovered a fun new feature of my Cornify button. Once you have hit it 5-ish times, it puts uni-terrific-corn adjectives in my titles and changes my font into something far more fun and free-spirited, like so:

I love being a copywriter!

Because I get to write this kind of stuff:

We also took a trip down memory boulevard and revisited:

I am particularly fond of this song:

I always thought the lyrics said, "depends on the mood of men." I would sit in the basement with my headphones on and listen for hours and hours to Jem, cradling my Jem doll.

And, as Joel pointed out, Jem is the original Hannah Montana, so suck it, Miley!

No, I didn't mean your shirt!

And more props to my awesome co-workers for bringing this change of subject to my attention:

I'm not a big cereal eater, but I would drop parachute to buy any of these awesome cereals no longer on the market:

AWESOME CEREALS THAT DON'T EXIST ANYMORE BUT TOTALLY SHOULD!

I mean, look at these fine examples, for example:

Serenading Lizards

You know when there is something so awful, so horrendous, that you love it because it is so bad? Like you just can't stop staring and laughing?

Well, awesome coworker, Bill, sent this to everyone, and, well, just watch for yourself...

The New Moon trailer almost made the cut, but that's just straight up bad, not bad in awesome, funny way...just bad.

Of Things Scary - Sort of

So over this past weekend I went to my very first ever live-action midnight showing of

at The Tower Theater. I was fully delighted to dress up all crazy (with leatherette leggings and a silver sequin mini skirt) and got even more excited when I saw all the seats covered in black plastic garbage bags. And I wasn't disappointed. Flying rice, toast, water, and toilet paper was absolutely awesome.

My only beef was the level of crudeness. Yes, Rocky Horror Picture Show is questionable to start with (which is the majority of the fun) but the live actors at The Tower took it 7,439 levels further. It's not that I was offended or anything, but it didn't appeal to my comedic tastes. To me, adding the F word to a sentence does not automatically make it funnier. Likewise, making something horrifyingly dirty does not automatically make it funnier either.

Balancing the pros and cons of the show, the verdict is that I had an awesomely fun time, and would recommend everyone experience it at least once.

[change of subject]

DRACULA!!!

So I've known about this blog for awhile, but am just now catching up. I really wish I had been reading from the beginning, because this is completely awesome. Dracula is one of my favorite novels ever, and the idea of reading it in real-time blows my mind. I love that Dracula, because of the nature of the narrative, is one of the only books out there that lends itself to this kind of reading. I love it...LOVE it...LOVE IT! I cannot talk enough about how awesome this is.
